There is no doubt that football brings immense value to the players and families that participate in the sport, but one of the most common pit falls for people looking to enter the sport is the fear.
We often hear:
- I’m Not Fast enough
- I’m Not Big enough
- I’m Not Strong enough
- I Don’t like to get hit
- I Don’t like to hit
- Do other girls play football?
- I don’t know anyone
- I’ve never played football before
- Where do I even start?
I can honestly say I’ve been there. Way back in the day I had a coach from High School stop by my Junior High, pick me out of the crowd and say “Hey you should play football!”. Up until that time I was all in on rec league hockey but I thought “hey I like the Eskimos, I could play football!” Right then and there I signed up for the local club, went to spring camp and lasted 1 week before I washed out.
I was afraid to hit or be hit. I felt I wasn’t big enough, I wasn’t fast enough, I don’t know anyone and I now know that I missed out on an big childhood experience.
Luckily times have changed. Football has changed. The Sherwood Park Rams Football club has played an integral part of that change.
The Rams are always working to introduce football to more people every year. We put on Free Spring Camps at Commonwealth field house where kids who are new to the sport can come out, try the game, learn some skills, meet the coaches and managers who fortunately give so much back to the sport.
Our friendly, trained and knowledgeable football coaches love this game and love the team. Many of our coaches played with the Rams in their early years and some of our coaches have had their kids come through the program and have stuck around for years just because of their love of the game.
It’s not just for the kids… Well it is for the kids, but the parents and guardians of the players on the field need to feel comfortable that we’re all here to give your player a safe, welcoming and educational football experience.
If you’re on the fence about football or on the fence about the club you want to sign up for, I encourage you to come check out our next spring camp on March 15th from 10:00 until 11:30 am.
Spring camp is open to all players aged 8 to 15. Football is Co Ed and inclusive of all types of players. Bring a pair of runners or cleats and a water bottle and get ready for so football.
We can’t wait to see you there!
